Outriggers by Water Tribe

Inflatable Sail Boat Outriggers
These outriggers are also called Racing Amas. They are placed outboard of small sailboat racing hulls to counteract the force of an oversized sail. In this way a boat can make better time in a race. These races are designed so that a person can be on the water for multiple days. This picture shows the prototype with 2 different d ring locatations. The end caps have not yet been installed.

Look at this YouTube video of the Amas in action.

Above all talk to Steve about how your boat and sail rig will work with these outriggers and his sail systems.

Steve Isaac is a customer who has an interesting title. He is Chief of the water tribe. I do not thing I could explain it as well as he does, and he does have quite a following. This is a bit removed from my experience as a white water person, but it looks like a lot of fun, and a huge challenge.

Here it is in Steve’s own words:

I am the founder of WaterTribe and I designed all of our races except the one in North Carolina. WaterTribe owns the races.

The Ultimate Florida Challenge is a 1200 mile circumnavigation of Florida using the St. Marys River and the Suwannee River to cross over the top of the state including a 40-mile portage. This Ultimate Florida Challenge happens every second or fourth year depending on how many signups we get. The next race is in March 2012. The Everglades Challenge is our signature event and is a 260-300 mile race from Tampa Bay to Key Largo. This race starts the first Saturday of March every year. Here is a link: http://www.watertribe.com/Events/EvergladesChallenge/Default.aspx

These races get challengers from all over the States and from all over the World. For example, Russia, New Zealand, Hungary, United Kingdom, Canada, and more.

These races are so tough that just getting to the launch beach is considered a major accomplishment, and finishing is a "life changing experience."

Best Regards,
Steve Isaac
