I recently purchased a couple paco grande pads. My 11 year old son and I got invited to float hell's canyon last month. As a kayaker I am a little sensitive to asking rafters to carry my gear. I know that the only things that rafts are good for are carrying people who don't kayak and carrying kayaker's gear. Unfortunately some rafters haven't caught on. Anyway, you can imagine how timid I was when my son and I arrived at the put in with a dry bag apiece and two grande pads. I had no sooner unpacked the pads when an oarsman who was with our party but I didn't know him, came up to me and asked: "can I use those?" I thought; this is the price I have to pay to get my gear hauled and now I'm going to have to sleep on the hard ground. Usually the price for hauling my gear is 12 pack of beverage of choice. I replied that my son and I hoped that we'd be sleeping on them tonight. He laughed and said no he wanted to put them on the dry boxes for passengers to sit on. The pads worked great, he hauled my gear, I drank his beer and life is as it should be.. Chris Jack's Note A paco pad can add a lot of insulation and comfort on a raft. Rafters know this. As a kayaker on a long trip, you may use this information to your advantage.
