Inflatable kayak Hybrid proposal by JPW

Well we have been working on making drop stitch kick up with a welding process now since about the end of July.  We have been successful in making this happen.  We feel it is necessary because of the glue issues that are starting to show up on the inflatable SUP s that are out there on the market.  This technology has lead in a number of different directions.   We now have 2 self- bailing whitewater rafts with kicked up floors, with a third just commissioned.

We are proposing this IK hybird design because I personally prefer to kneel while paddling, and although someone could stand up and paddle this boat, it has as much capability as an IK as it does as a stand-up paddle board.  That is why it is a Hybrid.

Secondary stability:

Because the drop stitch floor is the main flotation surface, most of the time the “main tubes” will be out of the water.  Secondary stability means that this craft will be more difficult to flip after it reaches a 45 degree angle because of the main tubes.  Of course the idea is that you will be High siding by that point.

This proposal is designed with the river in mind.  That means that we think with this design our customers will be able to play in the river more effectively, and still be able to deflate it and take it to the ocean for kayak fishing or playing in the waves.

There is an anti skid mesh panel that will be lashed to the drop stitch on top.  This mesh panel will have attachments for devices like a kneeling thwart tube, and d rings for your rod holder.  The main tubes will be lashed on to that system.   This proposal will enable to use the system with or without the main tubes, or in other words as an SUP, or as an IK.  The NRS fins on the bottom are removable.

This picture says a lot about why I would like to try this concept. This is one of our 4 inch sup boards, I am kneeling with a kayak paddle. it seems like a natural way to go.

This is a design proposal, and I am looking for feedback because I may not see an obvious problem with the concept, and I believe there are far better paddlers out there in the community that can help with inflatable design.

As always, we will test the concept extensively before we put it on the market.

Thanks Jack
