Paco Pad makes patient recovery less painful-

Burn Unit University of Colorado Burn unit Aurora, Colorado

To the reader:

Errol donated this paco pad to the University of Colorado Hospital Burn Unit over a year ago. ( I bleliev sometime in the fall of 2015) I did not get around to posting this until today. I regret that my timing is so very far off. The note and the card are very emotional. I hope I never have to know what a tub unit is, but I feel proud to be part of something that has such an impact on people even if they may not understand what that impact is. My special thanks to the University of Colorado Medical center Burn Unit for waiting so long for me to put this on the internet.

Dear Mr. Baade,

I apologize that it has taken me so long to write this note.  Dave has been in very critical condition lately.  On behalf of the entire Burn Unit staff at University hospital, and all of the patients who have benefited and who will benefit from your incredibly generous gift, I want to thank you for creating a custom paco pad for the tub room.  I often tell people it is very difficult to explain how traumatic the tub room experience is for a burn patient.  I have been with Dave many times and it is a horrible experience.  When we started using the paco pad for Dave, it was truly amazing and such a relief to see how much it helped.  While nothing can take away all the pain of being in the tub room, the added padding that your paco pad provides makes such an incredible difference in decreasing some of the pain and suffering.   We continue to use Dave’s own silverback paco.  Just for him because the extra inch provides more padding for him and it works for him because of how little he is now with losing such a large percentage of his body weight.  The custom pad has been used every day since we received it for rob and the rest of the of the patients.   While they may not have any idea about how much better the padding is, the burn techs do know and see and appreciate the difference it is making.  Thank you for your generosity.  I hope for and look forward to the day that Dave and I can thank you in person.

Sincerely, Amanda K

After receiving this letter and card, I emailed for more information. Her is what Taylor said about the paco pad.

Jack,

I apologize for the delayed response to your email. We have been so busy in the burn center the past few months. Firstly I would like to thank you so much for donating the Paco Pad to the Burn center. It was such a kind and amazing gesture to our patients. Here are the answers to your questions;

Q: I thought that the vinyl cover would really stick to the skin to damaged skin. Are there other substances that you use to cover the pad to keep this from happening?

A:We use plastic covering over the actual tub and the Paco Pad to prevent the skin from sticking and also for infectious control

Q: Is it easy to clean and maintain/

A:yes it is very easy to clean and maintain.

My only recommendation is if the pad were only little bit larger. At this time we only utilize it for our smaller patients. Again thank you so much for our own Paco Pad. If you have any further question or if you need anything at all please feel free to email me or call me.

Thank you,

Taylor Sherwood
